UN AI for Good: Accelerating climate science with AI

Principal Investigator Philip Stier and Training Coordinator Duncan Watson-Parris have been working with the United Nations ITU unit to organise a new event series on climate and Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning.

The AI for Good series is the leading action-oriented, global & inclusive United Nations platform on AI. The Summit is organized all year, always online, in Geneva by the ITU with XPRIZE Foundation in partnership with over 35 sister United Nations agencies, Switzerland and ACM. The goal is to identify practical applications of AI and scale those solutions for global impact. Philip and Duncan have worked with the ITU to organise the series, which was launched on 7th July and runs regular in-depth talks. The series aims to bring together leading voices from academia, industry and policy to provide a forum to ensure climate science is able to capitalise on the latest advances in AI and machine learning.

The kick-off event for the series took place on 7th July, with a fantastic group of speakers including Ban Ki-Moon, 8th Secretary General of the United Nations.
