As part of my PhD I focus my research on identifying the role of (anthropogenic) aerosols on changes in observed climate (precipitation or mean temperature) and the probability of extreme events. I'm testing machine learning methods and applying detection and attribution methods as well as causality techniques to detect the aerosol signal. Focal point of my previous M.Sc. research at Heidelberg University, Germany, was the investigation of glacial-interglacial climate variability. In particular, I implemented and compared various statistical methods (e.g. regression, Bayesian) for age-depth modelling of speleothems (e.g. stalactites and stalagmites) and investigated the relation of speleothem growth rate changes to past climate variability.
